This turtle motif symbolizes the livelihoods of the local people in Alor. Syariat was inspired to create this turtle motif when she saw her husband, a fisherman, caught fish in the sea. Most people in Alor work as fishermen and sea animals such as turtles can be found in the Alor sea. This Ikat is colored using natural dyes made out of plants and fruits, therefore it is not harmful to nature and the environment.
