De Opvolger (The Successor)

With Anthon's exhibition Pennies from Heaven in Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum, he wanted to show that his work is the result of cooperation with several clients. One of them was Wim Beeren, who had just retired as director of the Stedelijk. Wim was a great admirer of the suprematist artist Kazimir Malevich. For one of his disciples, Nicolai Punin, Malevich designed a habit and painted him wearing it. Anthon also regarded Beeren as a disciple, had the suit made again and put him in the same pose. It is a homage.

The typography is a piece from a job advertisement.

For reproductions by Toneelgroep Amsterdam, Anthon made visual posters but also separate text posters, because he didn’t want to put much text on the pictures. They hung side-by-side.
