Richard III

">

Richard III was the deformed king of England, who was teased because he was so ugly. That changed the way he saw the world, deforming his mind even more than his body.

The poster is a close-up of nose and eyes with one blind eye.

Anthon Beeke: "Set designer Paul Gallis is blind in one eye. One day I saw him take off the patch he has over his eye. A scary face, confrontational. In this case, the starting point was: everything goes through the head. Excitement, hatred, everything. That’s what the eye of Gallis visualised. I wanted as much eye as possible and as I worked I found the answer. I allowed in the idea of the typographical cross, but I toned it down. The choice of colours also plays a role. Gold is aristocracy, making the image richer and more distant."
