Poster for an exhibition of South American art, in this case from Uruguay, Argentina, Chili and Brazil. Anthon was allowed to make a political statement in this poster, not instantly clear perhaps, but it doesn't entirely escape those who can read is. Anthon Beeke: "I had got it wrong again. I should have filled the B with coffee beans, because Brazil exports coffee. The meat should have been in A because Argentina exports meat. But this was not the intention for a travel agency specialised in South America, but for an exhibition about artists from that continent – and I had a different picture of those countries. So it is human flesh. The U is filled with the mourning colours of the original population, the C with human hair, the A is filled with fragments of the most virulent cacti I could find in the botanical garden. They are a symbol of the tactility of that country, the evelness of it in fact. The artists themselves understood it."
